Tensile Fabric Structures Ras Al Khaimah

Tensile fabric structures are lighter than conventional roofs, let soft daylight through and can span large areas with very few columns. PTFE-coated glass fabric can last more than 25 years, PVDF-coated PVC typically 15-20 years and HDPE shade fabric around 8-12 years. In RAK, correct tension matters even more than usual, because a membrane that flaps in strong wind wears its seams much faster. On the coast, rinsing salt off the membrane from time to time also helps. When a membrane reaches the end of its life, the steel structure can usually be kept and fitted with a new membrane made to the same pattern.

Tensile structures make striking night-time features in Ras Al Khaimah. The translucent fabric glows when lit from below and can also carry LED projection, which suits resort pool decks, beach clubs, restaurant terraces and hotel entrances where evenings are the busiest time. Warm lighting creates an elegant atmosphere for dining and events, and colour-changing LEDs can be used for celebrations. Because RAK's resorts are often photographed at night, a well-lit canopy adds real value.
