Will swimming pool shades cool the water in Ras Al Khaimah?+
Yes. A pool shade can bring the water temperature down by around 5-8°C in RAK's summer by blocking direct sunlight, making the pool comfortable during the day. We plan the shade around the sun's path so the water and seating areas are covered through the hottest hours. Shade also reduces evaporation and chlorine loss, which saves water and chemicals. For villas at Al Hamra, on Al Marjan Island or in the foothills around Khuzam, we also consider the wind: RAK is windier than most emirates, so we choose sail shapes and positions that give good cover while coping safely with gusts.
What is the best fabric for swimming pool shades?+
Knitted HDPE shade cloth is usually the best choice for pools in Ras Al Khaimah. It blocks more than 95% of UV and lets hot air escape, and because wind passes partly through the knitted fabric, it copes better with RAK's gusts than a solid, waterproof fabric of the same size. Rain also passes through rather than collecting. For waterfront villas, we choose grades that resist salt and fading. Where a seating area must stay dry, a waterproof PVC fabric can be used over that part, engineered for the extra wind load. We bring samples of every fabric to the site visit.
Do the poles rust?+
No. Our pool shade poles in Ras Al Khaimah are hot-dip galvanised steel or marine-grade 316 stainless steel, and all fixings are stainless steel, so they resist rust from pool water, chlorine and sea air. For RAK's coastal and windy sites, we also size the poles and footings for the site's wind exposure, so the structure stays rigid and safe. A powder-coated colour can be added over the galvanising to suit your villa. The bases are detailed so water drains away. Rinsing the poles with fresh water every few months, particularly on beachfront properties, keeps them in good condition.
Can the shades be taken down in winter?+
Yes, and in Ras Al Khaimah it is often a good idea. The sails use turnbuckles and quick-release fittings, so they can be taken down fairly easily in winter, which lets the sun warm the pool and protects the fabric from winter storms and strong winds. The poles stay in place. We show you how to release and re-tension the sails safely at handover, and our team can do it as a seasonal service during our scheduled RAK visits. Store the sails clean and dry, out of the sun, and make sure they are correctly re-tensioned in spring, because a slack sail in RAK's wind wears quickly.
