Why choose a conical shade over a flat-roof car parking shade?
The cone shape lets hot air rise and vent through the single high point instead of collecting under a flat panel, so the space beneath stays cooler on a still summer day. The constant slope on every side sheds rain, dust and sand straight away instead of letting it pool in a low corner, which is a common weakness of flat fabric roofs and the main cause of sagging and staining. Tensioning the fabric into a cone also makes the membrane stiffer, so it flaps less in the wind and wears its seams and fixings more slowly. The shape is visually distinct as well, which suits standalone or feature bays such as entrances, drop-off points and villa driveways, where the shade is seen as part of the property. A flat roof is still the better choice where maximum rectangular coverage or a very low profile matters most, and we are happy to compare the two for your site.

Each cone stands on its own support and doesn't need to be linked to its neighbours, which makes it a popular choice for hotel valet drop-offs, individual villa entrances and scattered feature parking spots rather than long continuous rows. Because each unit is structurally independent, cones can be placed exactly where they are needed, around trees, lamp posts or irregular plot boundaries, without the frame having to span the whole area. Units can also be added one at a time later. Where several cones do stand side by side, the repeated peaks read as a deliberate pattern, and neighbouring units can be set at the same height and colour for a consistent look. On a very large car park, where cost per bay matters most, a continuous tensile or cantilever roof is usually more economical, and we will tell you if that is the case for your site.
What sizes are available for Conical Car Parking Shades?
Standard sizes run from a single-car 6.0m x 3.0m footprint up to a 6.0m x 6.0m two-car bay, with a standard open height of 2.5m. Custom sizes are available on request. Because a cone rises to a central peak, the height at the peak is always greater than the open height at the edges. That extra height is what vents the hot air, and it needs to be checked against any overhead restrictions or community height rules on the plot. For larger vehicles such as SUVs, pickups and vans, we raise the open height so that roof racks and tailgates clear the edge of the canopy. The size of the base and the height of the peak are chosen together, because a steeper cone sheds water and sand better but catches more wind.
