Tensile Roof Car Parking Shades use a large-span tensioned fabric membrane, stretched taut across a steel frame, in place of a rigid sheet roof. Because the membrane carries load through tension rather than the frame carrying it through bulk, a tensile roof can span a wider area per support column than a solid-roofed structure — meaning fewer posts are needed within the parking bays themselves, leaving more open space for vehicles to maneuver and doors to open freely. The tensioned fabric is also considerably lighter than an equivalent steel sheet roof, reducing the load on the foundation and making tensile roofs a practical choice for larger, open-plan parking areas at malls, offices, and mixed-use developments where column-free spans matter.

Wider Column-Free Spans | Lightweight, Lower Foundation Load | Thermal Comfort & UV Resistant | Tear & Wind Resistant | Easy Installation
The fabric membrane carries load through tension across the whole span rather than the frame carrying it through bulk material, which is the same principle used in large-scale tensile architecture. That lets a single support column carry a wider roof area, so fewer posts are needed between parking bays.
It's one of the best options for exactly that use case. With fewer columns needed per bay and a lighter overall structure than a rigid steel roof, tensile roofs suit malls, office parks, and mixed-use developments that want open, unobstructed parking without a forest of support posts.
The PVC, PTFE, or HDPE membrane is selected specifically for UV resistance and thermal comfort under direct sun, and we back the structure and fabric with a 5 to 15 year warranty depending on the grade chosen. Proper tensioning at installation is what keeps the membrane taut and performing over its service life.
The Tensile Roof Car Parking Shade specifications on this page — spans, frame materials, fabric weights, load figures and warranty terms — are set by Dhilal Al Qamar's own design and engineering department, the same team that produces the shop drawings, structural calculations and wind-load analysis for every project we deliver. Structures are then fabricated at our Sajja, Sharjah facility and installed by our own trained crews rather than subcontractors, so the figures published here are the ones we build to.
