Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a louvered pergola and a retractable fabric pergola?
Both let you open and close the roof; they do it in different ways and suit different budgets. A louvered pergola has a roof of aluminium slats that rotate, usually by motor and remote, from fully open to fully closed. Closed, the slats overlap to shed rain into a gutter built into the frame; part-open, they let you set exactly how much light and air comes through. It is the more architectural product, with a flat, clean roofline that suits modern villas and restaurant terraces, and it can carry lighting, fans and heaters in the frame. A retractable fabric pergola has a fabric roof that slides open or closed along tracks, manually or by motor. It costs less, gives a softer look, and is a good way to get flexible coverage over a garden or a café terrace without the price of a louvered roof. Both are built on aluminium frames sized for the span and the site's wind exposure.
Do you install pergolas yourselves, or do you use subcontractors?
Our own trained crews install every pergola we sell; we do not hand the work to subcontractors. That matters more with a pergola than with most structures, because the finish is what you look at every day and the details are where problems start. Our crews set out and cast the foundations, erect and level the frame, fit the roof — fabric, louvers, GRP or timber — and seal the structure so that a closed louvered roof drains to its gutters rather than onto the terrace. For motorised louver systems and retractable fabric roofs the same crew connects the motor, commissions the controls and any rain or wind sensor, and tests the whole cycle before handover, so you are not waiting for a second contractor to make it work. One team also means one point of accountability: the supervisor who installed it is the person who returns if anything needs adjusting during the warranty period.
Which pergola material holds up best in the UAE climate?
Aluminium and GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) hold up best, and for the same reason: neither corrodes, neither is attacked by sun and heat in the way organic materials are, and both need almost no maintenance beyond cleaning. Aluminium is the usual choice for louvered and retractable roofs and for coastal sites, where salt in the air finishes untreated steel quickly; it is powder-coated in the colour you choose and stays that colour. GRP suits fixed-roof pergolas that want the look of timber or a painted finish without the upkeep. Wooden and WPC (wood-plastic composite) pergolas give the most natural look, and there are gardens and resorts where nothing else is right, but wood needs regular sealing or oiling in the UAE and WPC, while far more stable than wood, still ages in constant sun. We recommend the material after looking at the site's exposure and asking honestly how much maintenance you want to take on.
