Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between PVC mesh fabric and solid PVC or HDPE tarpaulin?
The difference is whether air and light can pass through the material. PVC mesh is a woven polyester fabric coated with PVC in which the weave is left open, so wind moves through it rather than loading it, and light and airflow are reduced rather than blocked. That makes it the right material for fencing and scaffolding screens, sports facility screening, privacy and dust-control barriers and anywhere a solid sheet would act as a sail. Solid PVC tarpaulin is a closed, coated sheet: fully waterproof, opaque, and the material most tent and shade structure roofs are made from, because it keeps rain and sun out completely. HDPE tarpaulin is a lighter, lower-cost woven polyethylene sheet used for covers, temporary roofs and protection of materials on site. Choose mesh where you need a barrier that breathes and sheds wind; choose solid PVC or HDPE where you need a roof or a cover that keeps weather out.
Can I purchase fabric or tarpaulin material only, without a full structure?
Yes. We supply PVC, HDPE, PTFE and PVC mesh fabrics, and canvas tarpaulin, as material on its own, in addition to the full design-fabricate-install projects that most of our work consists of. Clients buy fabric alone for their own fabrication, for repairing or re-covering an existing structure, for site covers and temporary roofs, and for screening. It comes from the same fabrication facility in Sharjah that makes our own membranes, and we can advise on which grade suits the use if you tell us what it is for. If you are re-covering a structure that someone else built, we can also pattern a replacement membrane to fit the existing frame rather than supplying flat material, which is usually the better outcome.
What applications is PVC mesh fabric best suited for?
PVC mesh is best wherever you need a barrier that lets air and some light through instead of blocking it. Its open weave means wind passes through rather than loading the fabric and whatever it is fixed to, which is why it is the standard material for scaffolding and construction fencing screens, where a solid sheet would pull the scaffold over in a gust. The same property makes it right for sports facility screening around tennis courts, football pitches and driving ranges, where it stops balls, cuts wind and glare, and gives privacy without turning the enclosure into a wind wall. It is also used for privacy screens on balconies and boundary fences, for dust-control barriers on sites, for shade on nurseries and livestock shelters, and as printed banners on fences. It provides some sun protection but is not waterproof; where you need rain kept out, solid PVC or HDPE is the material instead.
