Do the fabrics fade in the Ras Al Khaimah sun?+
With the right fabric, fading is minimal. We use solution-dyed acrylic fabrics from leading European brands such as Dickson and Sauleda, with a 5-10 year warranty against fading. The colour is part of the fibre, so it resists RAK's strong sun far better than printed or surface-dyed fabrics. For coastal homes at Al Hamra, Al Marjan Island and Mina Al Arab, solution-dyed acrylic also resists mildew and salt. Retracting the awning when not in use, particularly in strong wind, protects both the colour and the fabric.
Can the residential awnings be motorized?+
Yes, and in Ras Al Khaimah we strongly recommend it. Most residential awnings we install have tubular motors inside the roller, operated by remote, wall switch or smart-home integration. The main advantage in RAK is that a motorised awning can be retracted instantly when the wind picks up, and fitted with sensors that do it automatically. Motors also make larger awnings easy to use. We plan the power supply with your electrician, and a manual override lets you close the awning during a power cut.
What happens if there is a sudden storm?+
RAK's stronger winds are the biggest risk to an awning, so for motorised awnings we fit wind or motion sensors that retract the awning automatically when movement exceeds a safe threshold. For exposed coastal and elevated homes in RAK, we set the threshold conservatively, typically around 28 km/h, so the awning is stowed before gusts off the sea or the mountains can damage it, even when nobody is home. Rain sensors can be added. For manual awnings, retract them whenever wind is forecast, and never leave them out overnight.
Can you print text on the awning?+
The awning valance, the strip of fabric at the front, can carry a house number, family name or logo, which is useful in RAK's larger communities. On RAK villas, a clear number on the valance helps visitors find the property in larger communities such as Al Hamra Village, and a family name adds a personal touch. Lettering is printed or applied in a contrasting colour, and we send a proof first. Because the valance stays visible when the awning is retracted, the lettering is always on display.
