Swimming Pool Shades Abu Dhabi

It does. Shading a pool from direct sun can bring the water temperature down by roughly 5-8°C in Abu Dhabi's peak summer, turning an uncomfortably warm pool into a refreshing one. The bigger the area of water shaded during the hottest hours, the greater the cooling effect, so we plan the shade around the sun's path over your pool. Shade also reduces evaporation, which saves water, and slows the breakdown of chlorine, which saves chemicals. For villas in Khalifa City, Al Reef or on the islands, a combination of sails over the pool and a fixed shade over the seating area usually works best.

Knitted HDPE shade cloth is usually the best fabric for swimming pools in Abu Dhabi, because it lets hot air escape upward while blocking more than 95% of UV. The space beneath stays cooler than under a solid cover, and rain passes through instead of collecting. For lounge areas and cabanas that must stay dry, a waterproof PVC or PVDF fabric can be used over those parts. For properties on Yas, Saadiyat and Al Reem Islands, where salt and humidity are higher, we choose fabrics that resist staining and fade less. We bring samples of every fabric and colour to the site visit, so you can see them in daylight.

They do not. Our pool shade poles in Abu Dhabi are hot-dip galvanised steel or marine-grade 316 stainless steel, so they resist rust even with constant exposure to splashing, chlorine and salty sea air. Galvanising protects the steel inside and out, and a powder-coated colour can be added over it. All fixings are stainless steel. Around saltwater pools and on island properties, we pay particular attention to the bases of the poles, where water can collect, and detail them to drain. Rinsing the poles with fresh water now and then helps them keep their finish. Poles are set in deep concrete footings sized for Abu Dhabi's sandy ground.

Yes. The sails are fitted with turnbuckles and quick-release fittings, so they can be taken down with relative ease in winter and re-installed when the weather warms up. Many Abu Dhabi owners take the sails down in the cooler months to let the sun warm the pool, leaving the poles in place. Taking them down also protects the fabric during winter storms. At handover, we show you how to release and re-tension the sails safely, or our team can do it for you as a seasonal service. Clean and dry the sails before storing them out of the sun, and make sure they are re-tensioned correctly in spring so they do not flap.
