Will swimming pool shades cool the water in Al Ain?+
Yes, and in Al Ain the effect is especially welcome. Summer temperatures there are among the highest in the UAE, and an unshaded pool can become uncomfortably warm. Blocking direct sunlight can lower the water temperature by around 5-8°C. We plan the shade around the sun's path so the water and seating are covered during the hottest hours. In Al Ain's dry air, shade also reduces evaporation noticeably, saving water, and it slows the loss of chlorine. For larger villa and farm pools, we often use several overlapping sails to cover the whole water surface.
What is the best fabric for swimming pool shades?+
Knitted HDPE shade cloth is the best choice for most pools in Al Ain. In the city's dry heat, its breathable knit lets hot air escape freely, so the shaded area stays much cooler than under a solid cover, while it blocks more than 95% of UV. Rain is rare, so full waterproofing is seldom needed. Light colours such as white and sand reflect more sunlight and keep the pool area cooler. Because UV is so intense in Al Ain, we specify fabrics with strong UV stabilisation, so they keep their strength and colour for longer.
Do the poles rust?+
No. We use hot-dip galvanised steel or marine-grade 316 stainless steel for every pool shade pole in Al Ain, with stainless steel fixings. Al Ain's dry climate is gentle on steel, but pool water and chlorine still attack unprotected metal, so galvanising is essential. A powder-coated colour can be added over it. Al Ain's large daily temperature swings make steel expand and contract, so we detail connections to allow for that movement and keep fixings tight. The pole bases are detailed to drain splash water. A quick rinse now and then removes dust and keeps the finish looking good.
Can the shades be taken down in winter?+
Seasonal removal is straightforward in Al Ain, since the sails are fixed with turnbuckles and quick-release fittings rather than permanent connections. In Al Ain, where winters are pleasant and the sun is welcome, many families remove the sails for a few months to let the pool warm up, leaving the poles in place.
