Will swimming pool shades cool the water in Fujairah?+
Yes. Blocking direct sun can lower a pool's water temperature by around 5-8°C in Fujairah's summer, keeping it refreshing. We plan the shade around the sun's path over the pool, so the water and seating areas are covered through the hottest hours. Shade also reduces evaporation and chlorine loss. On the east coast, where humidity is high and rain more frequent, many owners also want the seating area to stay dry, so we often combine breathable sails over the water with a waterproof cover over the lounge area. We design the layout during a free site visit.
What is the best fabric for swimming pool shades?+
Knitted HDPE shade cloth works well over pools in Fujairah, blocking more than 95% of UV while letting hot, humid air escape through the fabric. Because the east coast is more humid than the rest of the UAE, we specify HDPE with an anti-fungal treatment, which resists mould. Rain passes through HDPE, which keeps the structure simple, but where seating areas or cabanas need to stay dry, a waterproof PVC fabric pitched to shed rain is the better choice for that part. We choose colours and grades that resist fading and salt, and bring samples to the site visit.
Do the poles rust?+
No. In Fujairah's humid, salty air, we use hot-dip galvanised steel or marine-grade 316 stainless steel for every pool shade pole, with stainless steel fixings throughout, so rust is not an issue. Humidity makes this even more important than on the west coast, because moisture and salt settle on metal constantly. The bases of the poles are detailed so water drains away, and a powder-coated colour can be added over the galvanising if you want. Rinsing the poles with fresh water from time to time helps keep the finish looking new, and we can include them in our east-coast maintenance visits.
Can the shades be taken down in winter?+
Yes. Our sails are fitted with turnbuckles and quick-release fittings, so they can be taken down reasonably easily in winter and put back in spring. In Fujairah this is often worthwhile, because the winter brings more rain and occasional storms, and removing the sails protects the fabric, while letting the sun warm the pool. The poles stay in place. We show you how to release and re-tension the sails at handover, and our team can do it as a seasonal service on our east-coast visits. Make sure the sails are clean and completely dry before storage, to prevent mould.
