For Abu Dhabi's harsh climate, we recommend PTFE-coated fibreglass for permanent pool canopies. It withstands temperatures above 70°C and needs no re-tensioning. HDPE sail shades are an excellent and more economical alternative for residential pools. PTFE is the premium choice: it lasts for decades, stays bright white and cleans itself well in rain, which is why it is used on landmark structures and hotel pools. HDPE is breathable, keeps the area underneath cool and comes in many colours, making it ideal for villas. PVC sits between them, offering full waterproofing at a moderate cost. We recommend a fabric after seeing the pool, how it is used and your budget.

Yes. All our pool shade frames use hot-dip galvanised steel or marine-grade aluminium, both of which resist the corrosive salt found near Abu Dhabi's coast and around saltwater pools. Saltwater pools release chlorides into the air around them, and splash from swimmers reaches the lower parts of the columns, so we pay particular attention to column bases and fixings. Stainless steel fittings are used throughout, and cut edges and welds are protected before the final coating. Rinsing the columns with fresh water from time to time, and an annual inspection, help the structure reach its full life. Fabric choice is not affected by salt, so the same options are available.

Yes. Our project team manages all the documentation and liaison with Abu Dhabi Municipality and the relevant planning authorities for permit approvals. That includes structural drawings, wind-load calculations, a site plan showing the structure's position relative to plot boundaries and the pool, and material certificates. Villa communities and island developments often need the master developer's approval as well, which we coordinate alongside the municipality submission. Approval timing is outside our control, so we build it into the programme we give you at the start. Once approvals are in hand, fabrication and installation follow quickly, and we keep you informed at each stage.

We use deep cast-in-place concrete footings, typically 600mm in diameter and 1,200mm deep, to give stable anchorage in Abu Dhabi's sandy ground, even in strong winds. The exact size of each footing is calculated from the structure's height, span and exposure, because a tensile canopy puts both downward and uplift forces on its columns, and the footing must resist both. Before digging, we check for underground pipework, cables and irrigation, which are common around pools. Where a column must stand on an existing deck, we either core through it to a new footing below or use a base plate fixed to a suitable slab, depending on what the structure requires.
